Colette Fitzpatrick is reportedly leaving her role as co-host on Pat Kenny Tonight, in order to focus more on research for the show.
The current affairs show is set to return to our screens this Wednesday for a new season – but it’s unlikely that Colette will be reprising her role as co-host on the programme.
A source has revealed that the seasoned presenter wants to spend more time in the newsroom, rather than conducting live interviews.
“Unless something dramatically changes in the next few days, Colette will now move more back into the news department in TV3.” the source told the Sunday World.
“Pat was doing most of the interviews on the show and she thought she was playing second fiddle somewhat. She would have liked more input as she’s a consummate professional and brilliant at what she does.”
Last year the show came under harsh criticism for being called Pat Kenny Tonight, when Colette was also a host on the show. However, Colette shrugged off the claims that the show’s title was sexist.
“It has nothing to do with gender, genuinely.” she told the Irish Mirror. “I always knew the show was going to be called Pat Kenny Tonight because without sounding ageist Pat has more experience than me.
“He has nearly three decades on me so obviously he is the lead role on this. It doesn’t mean I’m going to be doing very little, I have a substantial role.”
