Coldplay took to the stage in Croke Park for the first night of their four sold out gigs on Thursday evening.

They really made sure that they made the Irish crowd feel at home.

Chris Martin opened the show with a cúpla focal.

He told the crowd: “Céad mile fáilte, go Croke Pairc…Tá áthas orainn anseo I Croke Pairc.”

And it’s safe to say that the crowd went wild.

The screens around the stage also had notices as Gaeilge, which we love!

He also took the opportunity to pay tribute to some of the biggest Irish artists that we lost in recent years.

Chris played the band’s ballad, Everglow and he dedicated it to Sinead O’Connor, Shane MacGowan and Dolores O’Riordan.

Their four-night residency in Croke Park is the first time the lads have played Ireland in seven years. At the time this was voted the most popular live event in Ireland in the past 20 years by Ticketmaster fans.

So it makes sense that tickets to these gigs this time around were like hot cakes.

After the show, Coldplay tweeted: “What a pleasure to be back in Baile Átha Cliath. Four shows in the temple of the GAA in front of 82,000 Dubliners in full voice is the perfect way to finish this leg of the tour. W. X”

Are you heading to any of the shows?
