Cillian Murphy announces break from acting

Cillian Murphy seems to be everywhere, not that we’re complaining.

Earlier this year, he picked up his first Oscar for his role in Oppenheimer. He is currently promoting his newest flick, Small Things Like These which comes out November 1st.

Small Things Like These is an adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel which tells the story of Bill, a coal merchant (played by Cillian Murphy), in the lead-up to Christmas. When delivering coal to the local convent, Bill discovers the secrets of convent. This forces him to try and do what’s right, without jeopardising his family, all while coming to terms with his own past.

Cillian went straight into filming after winning the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Oppenheimer and never gave himself a second to process the achievement. He’s also currently filming the Peaky Blinders movie, but it makes sense that he is ready to take a step back from the limelight.

“I just went straight back to work. That was my way of dealing with it. ‘It was an amazing dream-like thing to happen. I still haven’t fully figured it out,” he said during an interview with Brendan O’Connor on his radio show.

The Cork actor admitted that his Oscar-winning role “took a lot out” of him but said: “All the good ones always do.”

“I think you should always take a rest after a big project and go back to normal life… walking the dog, buying milk and cutting the grass.”

When asked if he had received any crazy or wild offers after his Oscar success, he responded that after his current projects, he doesn’t have any roles confirmed yet.

“I mostly want to have a rest next year,” he admitted after he finishes his 12-week filming schedule for Peaky Blinders.

With a schedule as busy as his, there is no doubt that a break is well overdue for the Cork actor.
