Aslan frontman Christy Dignam and his daughter Kiera are recording a charity single in honour of Batman Ben Farrell, the 5-year-old boy from Finglas who captured the hearts of the nation. Ben sadly passed away from a rare form of cancer in August of this year.
The song being recorded is Michael Jackson’s hit Ben. Christy is set to reproduce the track, and his daughter Kiera will record the vocals.
Going on sale this Friday, the single will cost €5 for the CD and €1.29 on iTunes. All money raised will go to two charities that helped the Farrell family during Ben’s illness, The Gavin Glynn Foundation and Aoibheann’s Pink Tie.
Speaking to The Independent.ie, Ben’s mum Val said that she was overcome with emotion when she heard what song was being recorded, and that she hopes it makes a difference.
“When Kiera told us she had been working on possibly releasing a single for Ben, I thought how lovely, what a great idea – but when she told me the song was Ben by Michael Jackson I cried.
“Through Ben we hope to find the strength to continue. We hope to continue to be inspired to live as fully as he did and we hope to continue to allow Ben’s smile to change the world for the better…. we hope to make him proud,” she said.
