Charlene McKenna shares why she chose to keep her wedding a secret

Charlene McKenna wed her partner, Adam Rothenberg in a super low-key ceremony at the start of this year.

She didn’t share that the two had wed until about six weeks later, instead opting to keep it private.

In a new interview the actress revealed why they decided to keep the news to themselves.

Speaking to the Irish Independent she said; “I kept it private for like six weeks, because I wanted it to be ours, and then I thought, you know, it’s happy news, I’m going to be doing publicity for Bloodlands anyway so I might as well put it out there on social media and be in charge of the narrative.”

“I’m always happy when I see other people’s weddings so I thought I’d spread the joy.”

The pair met in 2012 on set and got engaged in 2019, like many other couples over the past 12 months, had to keep changing their plans for their big day.

After cancelling a number of time the couple decided to go ahead with their wedding in January of this year, with many friends and family joining the ceremony virtually instead.

Speaking about this Charlene said; “Because the first and second weddings were cancelled, and I kept rejigging how we could make it work, it got to a point where it was just too compromised: it was all or nothing.”

When the third lockdown meant you could only have six guests they still decided to go ahead; “Six meant you’re definitely going to have another party in the future because so many people were left out – Adam’s entire family was left out because obviously they couldn’t come over.”

“In the end it was the most perfect day I could’ve imagined, all things considered. It was really special and really intimate.”

The happy couple said their vows in a fairytale ceremony in Castle Leslie, Co. Monaghan.

Adhering to all Covid guidelines, the pair said ‘I do’ in front of a tiny group of friends and family, but despite the small numbers, it was still a magical occasion.

Sharing some snaps from the day Charlene said; “Thank you to everyone who made our small day feel so big! To all our family and friends who couldn’t be there don’t you worry when this is over there’s going to be one HELL of a party!”

For the big day, Charlene stunned in a Natalie B. Coleman three-quarter length gown which she called “the dress of detailed dreams” while Adam looked dapper as ever in dark suit.
