Charleen Murphy opens up about dealing with trolls

Charleen Murphy isn’t afraid to stand up to her trolls.

And she gets a lot of them. With 285K followers on Instagram, she acknowledges that not everyone is following her for the right reason.

Speaking to VIP Magazine at the Hayu InstaStar Awards, she confesses that dealing with haters “never gets easier”.

“I think you get used to saying, ‘Oh you get used to it, you get thick skin’. But you don’t. I suppose, you do to an extent. But you shouldn’t have to! Things still sting,” she says.

She goes on to say that no one knows what is going on behind closed doors. And dealing with personal issues on top of online attacks is probably the worst part of her job.

“It especially stings when you have other things going on in your life. Then it’s just the cherry on top when someone says something horrible and mean. It should never be normalised and I think we have normalised it by saying, ‘Oh it’s just part of our job’. It never stops stinging, especially when it is a personal comment.”

Thankfully Charleen is not afraid to hit back at her trolls and she says that she opens others can take a page out of her book.

“Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself. At the end of the day, it’s bullying. Of course, people can have an opinion of me. I never ask people to agree with everything I do or wear or say. But then there’s just being mean and being a bully. So I hope people can take a leaf out of my book and just stand up for themselves. I hope they can do that in real life and on social media. It’s so important.”

But she doesn’t spend her time worried about the negative side of her job as she has so much to be thankful for. She just launched her second collection with KASH Beauty and just last week she unveiled her new collection with Lynott’s Jewellery.

“I’m busy, I’m up the walls! It’s amazing. The support I have is second to none,” she enthuses.

“It means so much to me. I had an event where people called in sick from work, someone had left college just to come see me. It’s incredible. What I do is because of other people, I’m so grateful for them.”

Her support had her picking up InstaStar of the Year at the Awards on Friday.
