I was at Electric Picnic this year and so many people came up to me and said it was because of budgeting they were able to go this year which was so amazing to hear.”

So if you want to get your money in order and start budgeting, Caz has shared her tips.

Start Slow

Caz tells us: “I always recommend starting off slowly, so it is really easy to look at someone like me and think oh my gosh they have it all going. I started off by taking very small steps and increasing my budgeting.”

Take a look at your spending

As for the first step she says: “The first thing I recommend doing is looking at my direct debits and your bills and seeing if you can reduce them in any way. It helps to write them all down what you have coming out, and what subscriptions you have and see if you can reduce them.

“Say for example you have a few TV providers maybe you don’t need them all you can reduce them. You can always get them back, I think people always get panicky about cancelling Netflix or Apple TV but maybe you don’t need them all, so, reducing one or two of them can really add up throughout the year.”

Start at the start of the month

Yes, don’t wait until that pay cheque is on it’s last legs!

“Putting a little bit aside for savings right when you get paid is just such a great way to start off. Alot of people say they want to wait until the end of the month to see what is left. There will never be anything left, it just disappears. Just put a bit away each paycheck if you can and slowly build it up. Then just start looking at your finances and see if there is anything you can do to free up a bit of income there.”

Take control!

Yes, you are in charge of your money. Take control at the start of the month by looking through where you need to spend money and what you can save.

“It is really important you take back that control because you are getting paid every month and you should be able to enjoy it and see that benefit every year rather than living paycheck to paycheck and feeling like it is all getting on top of you. It can feel very much like a cycle so it is all about taking back that control.”
