A former Fair City actress has spoken out saying stars of the Irish soap need to take on a second job in order to compensate being underworked.
Caroline Grace Cassidy, starred in the show for a three years and revealed that despite previous reports that stars of the show are raking in €460 per episode, they still need to get second jobs to make up for the number of unpaid months the actors face.
According to Caroline, the leads in the show only work 4-5 months of the year so in order to make up for the unpaid months some stars need to take on a second job.
She told The Herald, “The thing about the Fair City actors is that they work so little. If you take most of the leads on Fair City, they’re probably only in work for four months out of the whole year.
“People are always very surprised, but 20-25 weeks is the longest contract that they get. They film it in such a way that they’re in for those weeks. For the smaller ones, you’d really need a second job. You would.”
The Irish star went on to say she believes TV3’s Red Rock production is of a higher quality than Fair City and is making the original Irish soap play catch up.
She said, “I watch it (Red Rock) and I love it. I make sure I tune in. 100pc it’s giving Fair City a run for it’s money. The production, the pricing, everything. You turn it on and it could be a BBC show.
“You can see the difference. It’s going to get bigger and bigger.”
