Brian Dowling and Arthur Gourounlian have opened up about the terrible trolling they face after announcing that they would be welcoming their first child together.

Brian’s sister, Aoife acted as a surrogate for the couple.

They welcomed their daughter, Blake, into the world on September 1st of last year.

And the trolling around the issue has not stopped.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, Brian said: “Surrogacy is a controversial thing.

“I think it gave homophobic people the chance to attack us in the guise of concern – concern regarding my sister, concern regarding my child. When Blake was on The Late Late Show with us, a woman attacked us – ‘Oh my God, keeping Blake up so late…’”

Arthur added: “People always come for us. We’re in the limelight, we promote things – because everybody has to work – Blake sometimes will do sponsored things for baby food brands, and we get – ‘Oh you had a baby just to exploit her…’”

He went on to say that he tries to brush it off but Brian gets “angry” by the comments.

Arthur continued: “And at the same time, although those comments are there, 99 per cent are so nice, so supportive, so many beautiful messages.”

However, Brian confessed that they are “still fighting” to be accepted.

He told the publication: “A normal legal right for any child born in Ireland is that their one legal document that they have for the rest of their life is the birth cert, and we’re still fighting to try and get one of our names on that birth cert.”
