Ahead of Cutting Edge’s highly anticipated return, the show’s host, Brendan O’Connor, has revealed he’d like to see a more female-based panel for this series.

The programme is returning to RTE this Wednesday for its third series, and Brendan has admitted that he’s more at ease now, having done two series in the past.

“Oh yeah, I am [excited about the shoe’s return]! We’ve done two runs of it now. It’s very hard starting a new thing and finding your feet. Now that we’ve done two series, we can relax a bit.” he told TV Now Magazine.

“We can go for it a bit more now. People know what it is and what to expect. We’ve got a lot of new faces and voices and I think that’s something that people have learned about the show; that it’s not the same people all the time. We went off again and found a load of new people.”

There's been many heated debates on the show.

The new series of the show is set to feature a number of new female panelists, and Brendan is eager to have even more women on the programme this time around – as he believes they are more entertaining than men on current affairs shows.

“We found great, young, new female faces. If I had my way we’d gradually phase out men because one of the things I’ve realised, is that women are much better at a show like this, than men.” he said.

“They’re a bit more real. It’s more interesting. We’re thinking, we would normally have a man there, but we might maybe try out not having them there sometimes, just women.

“Maybe it’s moving more and more towards Loose Women. I think in a way, the very hard work is done. People have got it and it’s landed well in RTE. It’s good to build on that.”

Tune into the new series of Cutting Edge this Wednesday 22nd March at 9:35pm on RTE One.
