Broadcaster Brendan Courtney has candidly opened up on having a brief “brush with homelessness” while he was still based in London.
The TV presenter spoke ahead of Focus Ireland‘s annual sleep-out which takes place this Friday, October 11.
All proceeds for the sleep-out will go towards helping these people, with the fundraising goal €1,400,000.
Brendan revealed he had a “very dramatic” break-up while speaking on Ireland AM this morning, which led him to check into a hotel.

However, due to the hotel being incredibly expensive, Brendan went on to share how his card had maxed out after two days, forcing him to leave.
“I rang my friend John, who is still one of my best friends, and pitched to him to rent his room,” he told presenters Tommy Bowe and Muireann O’Connell.
“He was like, ‘I don’t know, we’d probably kill each other’.”
“And I was like, ‘I’m kind of desperate. I need to live somewhere’.”
“Only years later I thought, if I’d gone on the tear or just ignored it…. I even remember thinking, ‘SoHo Park is not that uncomfortable. It’s summer; I might be okay’,” he added.
Thankfully Brendan did always have an option to return home to Ireland, however, that would have entailed packing up his life and leaving his job as a late-night TV presenter for ITV which he wasn’t keen on doing.
The presenter then said it was only afterwards, when he had got himself settled, that he realised how vulnerable he had been.
Scary stuff!
