Bob Geldof is being sued for millions by his former Boomtown Rats bandmate, who claims he co-wrote their hit song ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’.
The political activist was originally credited as the sole writer of the number one hit, but now his former bandmate and pal, John Moylett is claiming that he wrote the majority of the music and some of the lyrics, but was encouraged to give full credit to Bob at the time.
The song is about a school shooting that took place while the band were touring in America.
According to the Irish Mail on Sunday, John is now saying that he started writing the melody to the popular song when he was returning to Britain from America 37 years ago.
Although John has admitted Bob wrote the majority of the lyrics to the song, he’s now seeking two-thirds of the royalties the song accumulated over 37 years for his own role in the song’s production.
Bob has called for his claims to be disregarded, claiming they are “a figment of his (John’s) imagination”.
