Blathnaid Treacy to replace Sinead Kennedy on RTE’s Today while on maternity leave

Blathnaid Treacy has shared her delight, as it’s been confirmed she’ll be replacing Sinead Kennedy on RTE’s Today show as she begins her maternity leave.

The broadcaster, who is no stranger to the show, already making regular appearances for entertainment and fashion news, will join Daithi O’Se each Monday and Tuesday, while Maura Derrane continues to host every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

She’s set to begin her new gig from March 15th and can’t wait to get started.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the show having presented alongside Dáithí before,” she beamed.

“It’s such a great programme, a staple of Irish television for so many years with Maura, Dáithí and Sinéad.”

She continued, “I want to wish my good friend Sinéad the very best of luck on her maternity leave.  She’s left behind some stylish shoes to fill.”

Sinead is due her first child this month with her husband Conor Kirwan.

The pair announced their pregnancy joy at the end of December and the presenter revealed she’s been blown away by messages of love and support from family, friends and viewers right across the country.

Taking to social media she beamed, “I have no words for how gorgeous you’ve all been. Thank you so much for all of your kind words, they are very much appreciated and made the last few days of 2020 all the nicer.”

She continued, “Feeling incredibly grateful and very much looking forward to everything that 2021 has in store for us; sleepless nights, nappies… the lot… it’s all part of the gig anyway right?”

Sinead and Conor have been married for six years after tying the knot during a romantic ceremony in Co Kerry, in 2014, surrounded by their nearest and dearest.

Tune in to RTE’s Today each afternoon at 3.30 PM on RTÉ One to catch Blathnaid, Daithi and Maura in action.
