Karen Byrne was left absolutely speechless earlier this year when Jake Carter got down on one knee on the Dancing with the Stars dancefloor.
The couple have been together for seven years after falling for each other on the show when they were partnered up as celebrity and professional.
Now they’re preparing to walk down the aisle.
Speaking to the happy couple for our August issue, Karen let us behind the scenes of engagement bliss and how much wedding planning they have done so far.
“Before Jake, I said I’d never get married – I guess I hadn’t met the right person,” Karen tells us with the biggest smile.
“It wasn’t something we spoke about too much, we’ve been focused on getting our act together to get a house. Getting engaged wasn’t even in my mind. Then when it did happen, and how it happened, I think that was the biggest shock, the fact people on Dancing with the Stars were in on it and I had no clue!
“I always thought I was good at those sort of things, if something was going on I’d generally know, but I was in complete and utter shock.”
So how is wedding planning going? Well…
“I’d hate a long engagement. I’d imagine we’d be looking at about a year and a half to two years max. How far in advance do you have to book the hair, makeup and venue? I’m oblivious!” Karen jokes.
“But we’re not in a big mad panic. It won’t be six years away though – I’ll be old and wrinkly by then!”
