Barry Keoghan has been open about growing up in foster homes after the tragic passing of his mother.
Eventually, he and his brother were taken in by their grandmother and aunt.
Of course, Barry is now a father himself and is trying to step up to the role in the best way he knows.
He welcomed his son Brando with his former partner, Alyson Sandro in 2022.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his parenting style, he admits that it’s not traditional as he doesn’t have a father figure to emulate.
“I didn’t have a father figure growing up, so even my relationship with my son isn’t quite of the normal father-son relationship,” he explained.
“Because I don’t have that figure to draw experience from and to base it on. Love, you don’t need anything to draw from, love is pure, and so I’m not on about that, but I’m on about little stuff like teaching your son this or teaching your daughter that.”
Barry wrote: “He’s more of a charmer than I am. Our wee Brando.”
It is clear that Barry is the proudest father, from sharing his name in his Instagram bio down to dedicating his BAFTA for his role in The Banshees Of Inisherin to his son in 2023.
“Ireland, Brando, this is for my son as well, Brando. For my mother, and also for the kids that are dreaming to be something from the area where I came from. This is for you.”
