Barry Keoghan reunited with Cillian Murphy for the highly anticipated Peaky Blinders film.
The pair previously worked on Dunkirk together and formed a strong friendship.
While it has been almost a decade since the duo worked together, Barry had been trying to get into the Shelby family for a lot longer.
In fact, he revealed that he had been trying to get into the BBC drama “for years”.

“I love the TV series, and I’ve been trying to get into it for years. I’d often text Shaheen Baig, who cast. She cast me in one of my first movies as well, but I’d text her and be like, is there anything in Peaky that I can get into?” Barry revealed on RTÉ Radio 1.
“It was always sort of availability issues or whatever. And then [the movie] came about, and it was just a no-brainer. I mean, it’s such an iconic show.”
Of course, the story of how Barry got the role in the Netflix film has gone viral as he revealed a text from Cillian Murphy on Father’s Day led to his dreams coming true.
“I think it was a text exchange with him on Father’s Day of all things, which confirmed the role. I have fake dads, and I say Happy Father’s Day. I always stay in touch with Cillian and Colin and all the Irish lads, we’re quite a tight group,” he explained.

“He just basically got back and was like, ‘Do you want to play my son in the Peaky Blinders movie?’ I was straight in with, yeah, definite.”
He went on to share how his own experience helped inform his performance in the film.
“It was such an emotional piece, being a dad myself and having a father who was absent, I can entirely relate to that. I think that’s what people are going to relate to. It’s a universal thing.”
