“Art saved my life” Pierce Brosnan on the hobby that changed him

It’s not often that we’re let in on the private lives of A-list stars. Their likes and dislikes, what they eat for dinner, their favourite hobbies and pastimes. But, Irishman Pierce Brosnan has given fans a glimpse into his life, hailing his favourite hobby for saving his life.

Pierce has recently teamed up with Seasons gallery in Los Angeles to raise money for charity, by selling his most famous artwork ‘Earplugs’.

Speaking with People Magazine, Pierce opened up about his long-standing love of art, explaining that becoming a graphic designer was his ambition before acting.  Explaining that he left school and the age of 16 with “nothing but a cardboard folder of drawings and paintings,” Pierce said:

“I managed to get a job, and I wanted to be a graphic artist. But I discovered acting three years into working at this studio and that was it, the tide turned.”

However, Fans of the star may not know, that even though acting took precedence in his life, his love for art continued in the background, with him setting up a studio on every acting gig he had.

“I always set up a studio when I go on location.”

Speaking about how art ‘saved’ him, Pierce said that he returned to painting in the late 80s, in a bid to cope with his wife, Cassandra Harris’ battle with cancer, which she sadly lost in 1991.

“Art saved my life, It really came to light out of a very hard time in my life. I turned to the world of painting and that gave me a great sense of comfort”

“Since then, it’s matured. I go to the studio each day, even if it’s just to clean the brushes or move the paints around.”

Pierce’s most recent painting, a portrait of Bob Dylan fetched a cool $1.4 million at a charity auction in 2018.
