Aoibhín Garrihy took a moment after her first performance on Dancing with the Stars to remember the Irish Coast Guard as the search continues for three missing crewmen off the Mayo coast.
The former Fair City actress got teary eyed after performing Nothing Compares 2 U alongside dance partner Vitali Kozmin for last night’s semi-final.
The dancing partners, who are hotly tipped to win the show, scored a hat-trick of perfect tens from the judges, but Aoibhín made sure to acknowledge that the thoughts of the country are with the families of Captain Dara Fitzpatrick, who was laid to rest yesterday, along with Paul Ormsby, Mark Duffy and Ciaran Smith’s families as the search continues.
After an heartwrenching performance, Aoibhín said: “Such an emotional song, I got emotional looking at the graphics of our coastline and thinking of the Irish Coast Guard in everyone’s thoughts this week.”
Viewers were quick to commend Aoibhín for her thoughtful tribute and compliment her for her sensational performance.
One viewer wrote: “Thank you for remembering our coast guard in your special hour – very classy act.”
Another said, “You were amazing just pure perfection and the scores proved it.”
We can’t wait to see what she has in store for us for next week’s final!
