Aoibhin Garrihy has talked about her experience so far of taking part in Dancing with the Stars, ahead of the show’s debut this Sunday.
The former Fair City actress is in the middle of her final rehearsals before she takes to the stage, along with a number of well-known Irish celebrities, to showcase her dancing talent.
Although this is the her first reality show, she’s doesn’t see herself taking part in another one. “In terms of reality shows, I would imagine it will be my first and last.” she told the Irish Independent. “It’s one thing putting one foot in front of the other, but having to eat mice or whatever… I’d have to draw the line there!”
Aoibhin admits that the live aspect of the show doesn’t scare her, and she thinks it’s important to follow in the footsteps of our passionate European neighbours and leave all her fears at the door.
“For me it’s just about losing inhibitions.” she said. “You play a character and that’s fine, but when you’re dancing as ‘Aoibhín’… it’s important to leave your inhibitions at the door and that’s a concept that I’m struggling with a little bit.
“I suppose as a culture in Ireland we’re not very good at that. Europeans are a little bit more passionate, or free, or whatever. I think we’re probably a more conservative nation as a whole…you have your nana at the back of your head all the time.”
Although the blonde beauty acknowledges that January isn’t the ideal time of year to be wearing skimpy outfits, this doesn’t seem to bother her.
“That part doesn’t faze me, although the costumes are definitely not forgiving and the timing isn’t ideal, coming after Christmas when I probably had a few too many mince pies,” she said.
Watch Aoibhin strut her stuff on the dance floor when Dancing with the Stars airs at 6.30pm tomorrow on RTE.
