Aoibhin Garrihy has spoken about her husband’s struggle to adapt back to everyday life, since returning from the summit of Mt. Everest.

The former Fair City star revealed that he is suffering from post traumatic stress after becoming the first Clare man to successfully climb the world’s tallest mountain.

“He has a bit of post traumatic stress now. I suppose for so long you have to bury the fear to survive. He’s waking up in a sweat, reaching for ropes and thinking he’s falling,” she told The Irish Independent.

“There were times when I really struggled when he was away. There were six days when I didn’t hear from him and that was hard.”

It hadn't been easy for them to be apart.

The Dancing With The Stars Ireland runner up went on to gush about her husband’s mental strength and “positive mental attitude.”

“John has a real positive mental attitude and saw a sports psychologist before he went,” she said.

“He’s almost allergic to negative thoughts. When I told him any fears I had, he shut them down and said there was no room for negativity.”
