Style queen Angela Scanlon has admitted she rarely gets noticed when she is out and about as, according to her, she usually “looks like a hobo”!
Angela has become a massive hit in Ireland and the UK and has just landed an exciting new gig with RTE2 called ‘Close Encounters’. In this new show the 31 year old presenter meets up with a variety of Irish celebrities, who are famous for various feats.
The Meath native opened up to VIP yesterday about being recognised in public and admitted she doesn’t really get noticed. “Usually I look like a hobo and go under the radar easily.” she said.
Speaking at the launch about her new found fame, the tv presenter stated that there is room for all female talent at home and abroad within in the television market.
And she stressed that there is no need for comparison between Irish females in the industry. “The likes of Laura Whitmore who is Irish and I’m Irish, we’re both females– its a natural comparison! I think Ryan Tubridy is probably compared to Terry Wogan. I think people like to compare people so people can place them in terms of the work I do its radically different to what Laura does so anyone who watches will see the difference,” she commented.
The funny gal got her UK break when she nabbed the role of digital presenter on BBC’s The Voice and admitted that she sometimes has to be careful at work with her strong Irish accent.
But she firmly believes the Irish accent is not a hindrance: “It’s annoying sometimes. I’ve been told I’ve to tweak certain things and iI speak slightly more slowly..which makes me sound like I’m speaking more correctly. I’ve no intention of getting rid of the accent.”
At yesterday’s launch, RTE2 promised its new season will feature a host of “strong female voices” including the likes of Jennifer Maguire and Vogue Williams.
When asked about her favourite part of new the show, Angela told us: “I ran away to the circus with Jason Byrne while wearing a nappy. My mum would be proud!” We definitely can’t wait for this!
