Andrew Scott sadly lost his mother, Nora, in March of 2024.
The actor had remained private about the sudden passing of Nora just days before Mother’s Day.
Now, almost two years later, he has discussed how he dealt with the grief of losing his “best friend”.
Speaking to Drew Barrymore on her ever-viral chat show, he explained how he began working on his latest film, Wake Up Dead Man, just six weeks after Nora’s death.

“To be honest, about six weeks before we started filming, my mom died. [She] was my best friend and my hero. It’s rough, it’s rough… It’s still rough, particularly around this time of year,” he explained.
Adding that it was just six weeks before filming commenced, he shared: “She died really, really suddenly, within 24 hours, and she [had been] completely fine. She was the total centre of our family.”
He went on to say that he would fall asleep a lot during the filming of Netflix’s Knives Out flick.
“I think grief, because I was so exhausted all the time, and ’cause at night you’re thinking, and they were all just incredibly kind to me,” he said of his fellow castmates.
“People talk a lot about Hollywood and the craziness of actors and all that kind of stuff… it is true a little bit, but you are in the empathy game. You’re trying to pretend what it’s like to be another human being, and so, actors to me have been the greatest, greatest friends.”
He added that he is very “grateful” for the support of his Wake Up Dead Man castmates, who include fellow Irishman Daryl McCormack, Daniel Carrig, Glenn Close and Josh O’Connor.
Andrew previously shared that the last film he starred in that his mother saw before her passing was All Of Us Strangers.
“It was the last film my mum saw before she died very suddenly,” he told fans at the FACTS convention.
“There’s a scene where he has to speak with his mum in his childhood bedroom. And there’s another scene where he has to say goodbye to his parents. And I feel very grateful that my mum got to see that. And you get to sort of express that love to her before she goes.”
