Amy Huberman’s Striking Out co-star Rory Keenan is actually her ex-boyfriend in real life, according to reports.
The pair are currently starring in RTÉ’s four part series together, in which Amy plays the role of heartbroken solicitor Tara, who has to leave her prestigious law firm when she discovers her fiancé and co-worker Eric (played by Rory) has been cheating on her.
And as it turns out the on-screen couple had a brief, real life relationship after meeting on RTÉ’s GAA drama series On Home Ground in 2001.
The pair reportedly dated long before the actress crossed paths with Brian O’Driscoll and enjoyed a brief romance before going their separate ways.
“Amy and Rory used to date many years ago, when she was about 21, and they went out for about six months before they both moved on,” a source told The Herald.
“It probably made filming a bit easier as she already knew him, but there was no awkwardness there whatsoever as it was so long ago.
“The Irish acting world is so small that everyone kind of knows everyone.”
The mum-of-two and her former love also starred on The Clinic together and Rory recently admitted that it was great to get back on screen with his former co-star and have some fun.
“I hadn’t seen her in a long time. I’ve been living in London for the last seven years so I wouldn’t have seen her out and about much. It was really good to reconnect and have a laugh, and it was a laugh”, he told RTE Entertainment.
Striking Out has captivated Irish audiences since it first aired at the beginning of January, with the first episode attracting 464,000 viewers and the second episode raking in 544,000 viewers.
