All the history Ireland made at the 2024 Olympics

The Olympics may be over but we’re still revelling in the glow of Ireland’s most successful Games ever.

Not only did we get the most medals ever, the Olympians made history over and over again.

Take a look at all the achievements from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Most medals ever!

Ireland walked away with seven medals this year.

Our four golds go to Kellie Harrington in boxing, Daniel Wiffen in swimming, Rhys McClenaghan for gymnastics and Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan in the rowing.

The three bronze medals went to Daniel Wiffen in swimming, Mona McSharry in swimming and Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch in rowing.

Most athletes ever!

Ireland sent a record 134 athletes to the Games, across 14 sports this year.

A total of 64 women and 69 men competed for Team Ireland.

Defending titles

Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’Donovan became the first Irish athletes since Dr Pat Callaghan in 1932 to successfully defend an Olympic title.

Kellie Harrington was quick to follow. She became the third Irish Olympian to do so, the first Irish woman to defend her Olympic gold and the first Irish boxer ever to defend their title.

First top 20 finish

Ireland was sitting pretty high at the top of the leaderboard over the coarse of the Olympics.

We finished 19th over all. This means that is the first time we broke the top 20!

First sprint final

While Rhasidat Adeleke didn’t walk away with a medal…this time. She made history as the first Irish woman to make it to a sprint final.

She joined the 4x400m relay team which broke the national record but were unable to secure a medal coming 4th once again.

First gymnastics medal

We hear a lot about gymnastics when it comes to the Olympics.

But this year Rhys McClenaghan wrote Ireland into gymnastics history as he secured Ireland’s first ever gymnastic medal. Oh and it just so happened that it was gold!

First Irish woman to compete in five Olympics

Fionnuala McCormack, finished her fifth Olympics, coming in 28th in the women’s marathon.

She began her Olympics career back in Bejing in 2008!

Ireland’s first ever heptathlete

Team Ireland’s Kate O’Connor made history today becoming Ireland’s first ever heptathlete to compete at an Olympic Games.
