The All Ireland final took place yesterday between Dublin and Mayo. The whirlwind game ended in a draw with the replay set for two weeks time.

In a video made by Dublin sponsor’s AIG Insurance ahead of the final, former Dublin player Alan Brogan reminisced about his time playing with the team, what he misses most about wearing the blue jersey, and what he feels this team needs to do be up there with the legendary 70s team.

Alan spoke about the fun he had with his team mates, stating that he’ll probably miss those times more than the sport itself.

“I miss being around the lads, that’s part and parcel of it, the craic in the dressing room and the time we spent with each other away at training camps.

He retired from the game last year.

“Obviously playing the matches is great but a huge part of it is being around each other. The half an hour before you go out training, they’re the bits I miss. I might miss them more than the actual football to be honest.

“For me it was the best feeling in the world winning in 2011, in 2013 I was on the bench, and 2015 last year I managed to get the last score for Dublin. It was an amazing feeling,” he said.

The 34-year-old also said that this Dublin team may be the best ever, but in order to be remembered in the same way that the 1970’s ‘Heffo’s Army’ team then they need to win this year’s final.

“They’re certainly not far off it. But they definitely need to win on Sunday (this was filmed prior to yesterday’s match) to be seen in the same breath as the team of the 70’s,” he said.
