Ailbhe Garrihy has revealed, with sadness, that her newborn son never got to meet her Grandad.
Doireann Garrihy shared the news earlier this week that their beloved Grandad, Chris Droney, had passed away.
“On the road to County Clare. Last night, our beloved Grandad Chris left this world.”
“95 years of music, laughter and love. It’s so hard to hit the road knowing we won’t be met by his smiley eyes or his concertina magic when we arrive in The Banner.”
Ailbhe, who gave birth to her first child earlier this month shared her regret that her Grandad didn’t get to meet him.
“There are no words to describe how proud we were of you. A musical legend, a gentleman and a great friend. I feel so lucky to have had almost 31 years with you.”
“Baby Seán was so close to meeting you and I’ll forever be sad that he didn’t, but rest assured he’ll know everything about you and we’ll never stop playing your music Sleep well, we will miss you every single day x”
The PR guru also had a stressful birthing experience, as with the Covid-19 pandemic numbers allowed in the hospital are kept at an absolute minimum.
Speaking of the experience, the new mum said, “Ruaidhrí could only come as far as reception with me and I wouldn’t see him again until I was in the delivery suite.
“There were tears as we said goodbye but I just kept thinking ‘get it together Ailbhe- millions of women have done this before you and millions more will do it yet’. 13 hours later we met our perfect baby boy.”
