The Tommy Tiernan Show made its highly anticipated debut last night, and received rave reviews, but there was a particularly embarrassing moment for the second guest, Vogue Williams.
The premise of the show is that the comedian interviews his guests without having any idea who they will be before they walk out on stage, something which proved to be particularly awkward for TV presenter, model and DJ Vogue.
After an enthralling interview with Christy Dignam, MC Fred Cook welcomed Vogue onto the stage, and her name left Tommy looking bewildered, as he mouthed to the camera “who is she?”!
As the former Fade Street star walked on to the stage, she realised that Tommy didn’t know who she was and said, “You’ve no idea who I am, do you? “No. Let me guess, you’re a handball player,” joked Tommy. “I mean I know your name, I thought you played tennis in America!” he responded.
In fairness to Vogue, she laughed off what could have been a traumatic experience for anyone else, and took Tommy’s reaction in good spirits. The 31-year-old went on to explain what she does for a living, and made fun of the fact that Tommy had no idea who she was. “I do a lot of things to be fair. I’m a TV presenter, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed all my shows! I also model and DJ and I write a column – that you don’t read.” she said.
The pair quickly got over their initial awkward moment and went on to have an interesting chat about a variety of topics. And while Tommy may need to brush up on his Irish celebrity knowledge, the programme was well received by viewers, with many taking to Twitter to praise RTE’s latest chat show.
