Imelda May has just announced her split from long term partner, Darrel Higham.
The couple who perform together, have been happily married since 2002 and have a daughter together named Violet.
Imelda took to her Facebook account last night to tell her fans the devastating news.
“My husband Darrel and I have split up. As you can imagine, we are very sad but happy we’re happy the right decision for us and our daughter who is doing really well by the way,” she explained.
Imelda went on to say, “Weird to have your life as gossip, but that’s human nature. No matter what you hear and read, my husband and I have the deepest love and respect for each other and are doing well. We are lucky to have such amazing family and friends.”
The only reason Imelda took to Facebook in the first place, was to set the record straight and give her point of view. She mentions that, “the papers are running with it soon”, and doesn’t want any wrong or hurtful stories spreading about the pair.
“As you know, I hate to air my laundry in public, and never do, but thought I should put something on here to dispel any bad rumours,” she said.
The news of her separation comes just a week after she paid tribute to her cousin Finbarr Clabby who tragically passed away in New Zealand.
