Holly Carpenter found herself in the midst of a cat-fishing ordeal last month, but unfortunately, nothing has been done about it.
Images of the model were used on a fake account on Tinder, an online dating app. The impersonator then began to personally message a number of people, claiming to be Holly.
She reported the incident to the guards, but says they haven’t taken her claims seriously.
Speaking on the Anton Savage Show on Today FM, Holly said, “It seems to me that the guards have a lot on their plate, and I’m not really being taken seriously. The guard I was talking to wasn’t really familiar with Tinder, and I found out myself it’s someone from Cork. I have their mobile number and their location, but it seems to be the hardest thing in the world to track them down.”
She continued, “They’re not technically committing a crime even though they are impersonating me. It’s crazy! I met a really nice guard who is trying to help me out and get the account deactivated, but even if they deactivate the account they’re still texting people and pretending to be me, so it’s embarrassing.”
Holly took matters into her own hands and confronted the impersonator, and didn’t have time for their excuses.
“I confronted the person because someone gave me their mobile number. I said, ‘Can you just stop this?’ They haven’t stopped, but at the time they just said, ‘Look Holly, I don’t get much attention from guys. I was loving the attention. It was nice to interact with people on Tinder because I don’t get that when I go out.’ And I was like, ‘Listen, I don’t care! You need to delete this Tinder. It’s not my problem whatever is going on in your life, and stop pretending to be me,” she said.
The model feels bad for anyone who has been speaking to the impersonator, but insists that online dating is not her style and she wouldn’t do it.
“I think people actually think it’s me. I feel bad for the guy who thought he was actually chatting away with me for months. He said we’ve been talking for months. Anyone who knows me would know that I wouldn’t be trying to chat to people on Tinder. It’s not my style,” she said.
