Donal Skehan and Sofie Larsson have officially tied the knot!

The pair said their vows today.

Donal Skehan married his long-term girlfriend Sofie Larsson in City Hall at lunchtime today.

Sofie wore a stunningly simple white dress, with beading around the waist and Donal opted for a navy three piece suit with a purple tie.

In what turns out to be a typical Irish fashion, the couple met in a pub through mutual friends in 2006. Sofie came here from Sweden to visit a friend, and the two have been inseparable ever since.

“Her best friend is half Swedish and her grandmother used to live on the road I grew up on, so we kind of got to know her. One year Sofie came over with her, we all went out to the pub and the rest is history,” he told Irish Independent a while back.

The pair have been engaged since last May, when the Howth native proposed to Sofie in Paris.

Posting on his blog at the time, Donal said, “I’m feeling very grown up just writing this post, but after eight amazing years with my girlfriend Sofie, I proposed to her in Paris over the weekend. With a thumping heart and a view of the Eiffel Tower, I took out the ring and said those very real words, ‘Will you marry me?’”

Despite the pair being so involved in the Irish food industry – Sofie is Donal’s long term business partner – they were more than happy to hand over the cooking duties for their big day.

Speaking to the RTE Guide a couple of weeks ago, he admitted, “I won’t be going near the food for my wedding. We have very good friends who have a restaurant in Drogheda called the Eastern Seaboard and they’re going to be looking after it for us. What we’ve gone for with the food is very relaxed, family-style dinner rather than silver service.”

We wish the happy couple the best of luck!
