Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh has slated Operation Transformation because she thinks it engages in unnecessary fat shaming.
The tv presenter has been open in the past about her own weight loss struggles, but the red-haired beauty admitted that although she has taken part in reality tv shows before she doesn’t agree with the way the contestants are portrayed on the weight loss show.
“I have been the person who did reality TV before,” she told The Irish Independent
“I know how everything is edited and I know how things are done and I don’t understand [why they do it]. I call it fat shaming – and I don’t think there’s any need. There is no need to fat shame people.”
“Programmes that do that – and I know that they do their fitness too and they are creating an entertainment programme – but they all want their ratings and I am delighted for them but there is a place where responsibility is key.”
Blathnaid went on to say that she wants to loose weight so she can live a long, healthy life and believes that the reality of healthy weight loss should be taken into consideration as well.
“I am sorry but the real reason I want to lose weight is because I was getting to the top of the stairs and I was out of breath.” she said.
“I don’t want to die young and I don’t want to have a heart condition. That is the reality of healthy weight-loss and has more impact on people.”
