From gangland crime to love, the voice narrator behind RTE’s First Dates Ireland is former Love/Hate actor Peter Campion.

Peter previously played the part of Ruth Negga’s boyfriend Stumpy on the crime drama, but now he’s responsible for bringing together those looking for love.

The Dublin-born actor is an integral part of the show, and has been working on it since it first started airing in Ireland. Although he doesn’t get to meet the contestants directly while filming, he has built up relationships with some of the daters.

Speaking to the Herald Peter said, “There is a familiarity with the contestants because you’ve been part of this intimate first date set-up and watched the relationship unfold. You can’t help but get caught up in it.

“I once saw Daphney (Sanasie) on South Anne Street and remembered her date. I went up and introduced myself and we had a cup of tea. She’s great craic.”

Peter revealed that fans have begun recognising his voice, even though he speaks differently while on air.

“People pick up on it after they have been talking to me for a while. A lot of my friends who I didn’t think would watch the show ask me about it.

“On the show my voice sounds a bit different to my natural voice. I have to listen back to previous recordings and take some time to try and sound that groovy again,” he said.
