While it was an unsuccessful night in Kiev for Irish Eurovision hopeful Brendan Murray, he certainly got people talking on social media, but it wasn’t to do with his music at all.
Many Irish viewers couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between Brendan and Irish celebrity chef Donal Skehan.
“Thought Donal Skehan was gonna stick to the cooking? #Surprise #Eurovison #Ireland” wrote one user, with another adding “Just tuned in, didn’t realise Donal Skehan was repping us in #Eurovision.”
Following his successful culinary career, it’s easy to forget that Donal did actually bid to represent Ireland in the Eurovision a couple of years ago.
The Howth Native took part in EuroSong 2008 with the track Double Cross My Heart, eventually losing out to Dustin the Turkey.
Donal replied to fans with the hilarious tweet, “Happy Eurovision! Vote Ireland good on ya @brendan_m96- great performance! I promise it wasn’t me- that was so 2008! #ThrowbackThursday”
