Throwback Thursday! Kodaline look VERY different nowadays.

VIP chatted to the lads in 2007, and it's not just their name - 21 Demands - that you won't recognise today!

It’s throwback Thursday here in VIP Towers, so naturally we opened up the vaults and took a look back at some of our old issues. During our search we came across an interview we did with the You’re A Star runner’s up, 21 Demands- or Kodaline, as we know them today!

VIP sat down with the boys in 2007. They had just completed the Leaving Cert, were gigging with bands such as Republic of Loose and The Blizzards, and learning a lot about the music business with the hopes of one day ‘making it’.

“We just focussed on playing gigs and we’ve played with great bands like The Thrills, The Blizzards and Republic of Loose. When we play with those bands, we always ask them how they got signed, who helped them, so we’re learning all the time,” they told the mag. Little did they know how popular they’d become!

Wow, they've changed a lot!
Wow, they’ve changed a lot!

Fast forward 9 years, and the band have a new name, new music and certainly a new image! They’ve ditched the baggy jeans and spiked hair, for a more indie rocker look- less hair gel, more hipster shall we say!

Current members Steve Garrigan, Jason Boland, Mark Pendergast and Vinny may Jr. became Kodaline in 2012 and released their first song, All I want. This was quickly followed by their first studio album, In a Perfect World, which was released the following year.

Since then they’ve had major success with their second album Coming Up For Air, featuring hits such as The One and Honest, both of which made it into the UK Top 40 Singles Chart.

We're glad you ditched the spikes Steve!
The band’s heart-throb Steve Garrigan has changed the most in our opinion!

Kodaline have now just finished their most recent European tour, and headlined their biggest Irish gig in Dublin’s Marlay Park in July.

They’re going from strength to strength. A far cry from the four young lads with the hopes of releasing one single eh?
