With an exclusively openly gay cast, the modern adaption of a 1968 play, The Boys in the Band is one of the best LGBTQ+ films on Netflix since its release in 2020.

Set in 1968 New York,  Michael (Jim Parsons) is hosting a party for some of his gay friends. When Michael’s old roommate Alan (Brian Hutchinson) shows up, Michael’s party is threatened because Alan doesn’t know that Michael is gay.

The Death And Life Of Marsha P. Johnson (2017)

Not all of the best LGBTQ+ movies on Netflix are feel-good coming-of-age romantic comedies. Some showcase the mournful struggles people have gone through for queer acceptance.

The Death And Life Of Marsha P. Johnson is a prime example. The documentary catalogues the life and unexplained death of the LGBTQ+ activist and serves an important purpose in cataloguing the life, times, and tragically, unexplained death of one of the most influential figures in the history of LGBTQ+ activism.

The Half Of It (2020)

A beautifully relatable teen romance that depicts a right of passage for many queer teens.

Ellie Chu a shy and introverted girl tries to navigate her love life during the last few months of high school as she tries to gather the courage to finally talk to her crush Aster.

Single All The Way (2021)

It’s never too early for a Christmas movie, especially if it celebrates queer love.

The romantic comedy centres on Peter (Michael Urie), a gay man whose plan to introduce his family to his boyfriend is ruined when he learns said boyfriend is married.

Not wanting to show up at his parents’ house single again, Peter convinces his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to come home with him for the holidays.  Putting a queer twist on the classic freinds to lovers trop Single All The Way is a heartfelt romantic comedy for any time of year.

Heartstoppers (2022)

If you’re looking for a series full of gay pride and love a good binge watch – check out Heartstoppers.

Netflix’s latest book-to-film adaptation follows Charlie, an openly gay teen and his relationship with closeted rugby player Nick. The adorable teen romance is sure to tug on your heartstrings.

The Edge of Seventeen (1998)

A classic coming-out film that cannot be forgotten. A teenager copes with his sexuality on the last day of school in 1984.

The autobiographical tale describes the life of an American teenager growing up and learning about life, love, sex, friends, and lovers.

A Secret Love (2020)

A heartfelt portrait of true romance at any age. This documentary filled with sensitivity and intimacy depicts the true love story of two women, now in their nineties.

After decades of hiding their feelings for each other, the couple can live their life and enjoy their love publicly and freely.
