Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander enjoy a visit to Antrim

Michael Fassbender has returned to Ireland with his wife Alicia Vikanders, for a visit to County Antrim.

The pair enjoyed at star at The Salthouse Hotel in Ballycastle, which has proved popular with A-list stars lately as Helena Bonham-Carter and Pierce Brosnan also stayed there in March while working on the upcoming film Four Letters of Love.

Taking to Facebook, the hotel staff shared a photo of the couple in the hotel and opened up about their stay. Writing: ” We just keep getting more stars…”

“We had the pleasure of having Michael Fassbender (X Men), his wife Alicia Vikanders (Lara Croft) and their family and friends stay for a few days.”

“Book your luxury stay now and you never know who you could be rubbing shoulders with.”

The Kerry man has strong links to Antrim as his grandparents in Larne, and he spent quite a lot of time visiting them there as a child.

Telling the BBC: “I was very close to both my grandparents up there and spent many holidays up there.”

“My home is down at the other end in the south west, but there’s elements of that for sure because my Irish side of the family are up there.”

The famous couple are based in Portugal, but have clearly enjoyed their Irish getaway.

Michael and Alicia first met in 2016 on the set of heartbreaking drama, The Light Between Oceans and went on to marry in Ibiza back in 2017. They welcomed their first child, a son, in 2021.

Since then, the couple have been living in Lisbon, and in a rare interview Alicia spoke about how much they love it there.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Alicia spoke about living in Lisbon during the pandemic; “The wonderful thing for me is being able to stop working and being at home with my husband and making sure my family is good.”

The A-list couple will be working together for the first time in seven years for the upcoming film, Hope.

The Korean project will be directed by Na Hong-Jin, of The Wailing fame, and will see the couple star along side Squid Games star HoYeon Jung.
