James Kavanagh has opened up about his battle with anxiety, having recently gone through “a bit of a rocky patch”.

Taking to Instagram, James admitted that he had been experiencing “ferocious panic attacks” with anxiety pretty much taking over his whole life.

The influencer-turned-TV presenter explained that he had gone through numerous health checks thinking, at some points, that he was even dying.

Speaking to The Sunday Independent, James recalled feeling like he was about to have a heart attack one night after waking up to a “fizzy feeling”.

“It was terrifying,” he admitted, after sharing how he woke up his boyfriend William to call an ambulance.

“I had nothing to panic about, that’s what was annoying me. But then ferocious panic attacks every night.

“They would paralyse me, I’d have to lie on the floor, some of them I’d be physically shaking.”

While James shared that his panic attacks disappeared almost a year later, he still had a “permanent state of anxiety”.

There was even a point where James felt as though he couldn’t leave his house after he thought he was experiencing vertigo.

It was shortly after this that led James to the doctor where he was prescribed SSRI antidepressants for anxiety – which he told the publication made “the world of difference”.

“Through opening up, William being consistently lovely, very honest chats with friends and medication prescribed by my doctor based on numerous visits, I got through it,” James shared in his Instagram post.

“I’m in a very happy place right now – something I genuinely never thought I’d feel again when I was in the depths of it.”
