Red Rock is currently airing its exciting third season, but it seems that after the series ends, the drama may be set to leave TV3.

An insider at the show has revealed that there is a clause in the actors’ contracts, stating that TV3 aren’t obliged to make any more episodes when the contracts run out, which is in April or May of this year.

Speaking to the Irish Sun a source said, “That effectively means that Red Rock could end its run on the station.

“It’s a great show which has attracted rave reviews and won a string of awards. But the harsh reality is that audiences for Red Rock remain low. TV3 have tried everything to make it work. It’s now in its third time slot but simply not enough people are watching it.

“The BBC and Amazon deals gave the impression that the show was doing well but the money made from those deals is small. TV3 tried and tried to get a sponsor but the station wanted to charge top dollar for a premium product.

“The problem they had was that Red Rock never got the ratings of a premium product like The Late Late Show or Fair City.”

There is talk however, of the show being bought by another station, if Element Pictures chooses to sell it to a competing broadcaster. The future of the programme may change also if Red Rock fans discover TV3’s plan.

“The writing is fantastic. If word got out Red Rock was being axed, there might be a backlash from fans which could make TV3 keep it on air.

“But many of the actors might not hang around as wages are low and some of them wanted to leave anyway at the end of this third series,” the source said.

Lets hope they come up with a way for the drama to continue.
