It’s been almost two weeks since The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan sadly passed away.

The singer was laid to rest on Friday 8th December following a procession through Dublin city that morning.

The funeral, which turned into a celebration of Shane’s life and accomplishments featured an uplifting performance of Fairytale of New York while whoops, hollers, and cheers echoed around the church in Nenagh as loved ones sent The Pogues star on his way.

Many stars were among the attendees including actors Johnny Depp and Aidan Gillen, President of Ireland Michael D Higgins, Nick Cave, and former Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams.

Good pal Imelda May who was also in attendance shared how she “cried, laughed, reminisced and gave thanks” to her old friend in a send-off like no other.

“It’s so hard to lose a giant amongst us who has influenced and changed the world,” she began in a heartfelt Instagram post.

“So hard and soon after Jeff, Christy, Sinead. All icons. It’s a universal and personal mourning… and rightly so. Shanes funeral was filled with love as he was. The friendships are real, the support is solid.

“His brilliance attracted incredible people on his journey from nurses, to cab drivers to artists. He was an irresistible magnet to us all. Glen Hansard did an incredible job herding us and pulling together something fittingly extraordinary for Shane. For which I was humbled to sing with Declan O’Rourke.”

Imelda then reminisced on when she would sing Fairytale of New York with Shane and how he’d get “divilment” in his eye and spin her around until they would almost fall over.

“I just couldn’t stop myself from leaping out of my seat,” she added in reference to the song being sung at the funeral.

“It was a glorious ‘f*** it!’ moment for and with our Irish punk, romantic realist, genius, innovator, one-of-a-kind Shane.

“I’m honoured to have known him,” she added.
