Dáithí Ó’Sé has praised his Today Show co-presenter Maura Derrane, crediting the huge success of the show to their genuine relationship.

The pair have been co-hosting The Today Show with Maura and Dáithí since 2012, and the well loved Kerry-man says their friendship is one of the main reasons for the show’s continued success.

“I remember getting a call from one of the bosses asking me to go to Cork for a few months and I said no problem – and we’ve been there for seven years,”Dáithí told VIP at the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards.

“We’re back again in September now! I think, you know there’s no BS between us (him and co-host Maura Derrane). There’s no pretence.

“We’re inside in people’s living rooms five days a week and it’s repeated again in the mornings. So we’re there a lot, and if we didn’t get on it would show.

“There’s a really kind of laid back approach from both of us. We don’t take each other too seriously and we’re there for each other when we need it. Which is very important.

“We kind of have as much fun as we can on the show every day and we’ve been very, very lucky. We’ve only four weeks to go and the it’s summer holidays.”

Despite being on air for over seven years, and being kept busy with his young family and Rose of Tralee duties,  Dáithí says he has no plans to step away!

“There’s even talks about extending the times now in September which is great. When  we started we were doing 80 shows a year and we did 166 this year.

“We started with 60 minutes, that went to an hour and a half and now its two hours and ten, and there’s talks about an extra half an hour so we’re very, very lucky.”
