There are many things we can have regrets about when it comes to the ‘If only I hadn’t’ moments in life, a buzzword high on the list is tattoos.

Perhaps it was a dare, or maybe you loved it at the time, whatever your reasons, undoubtedly many people wish that they had considered what the ramifications of permanently altering their skin might be.

Thankfully, however, a tattoo, even if it’s present is no longer enjoyed has no negative impact on our skin or our health, outside of perhaps looking less than pretty.

Perhaps you’re now making a mental note to have the ‘no tattoos’ conversation with your kids but what you might not be aware of is that there are bigger skin-related concerns to consider for your little cherubs!

The fact they may have already been exposed to UVA’s from the sun, the damage of which is a permanent as a tattoo. You might be wondering, ‘But what are UVA rays?’

UVA’s are the most common type of rays, penetrating deeply into the skin and can cause long-term skin damage. UVA rays are associated with skin ageing as well as skin cancer and can cause damage even on overcast days. A common oversight, especially living in our climate, is that the same fastidiousness when it comes to sun cream application does not apply at home as it does when abroad, well this is a misconception that Boots Soltan is here to bust.

But, before you run outside to shepherd your children indoors and wrap them in cotton wool for the months ahead, listen up. Boots Soltan is on a mission to ensure that your kids can enjoy all the benefits of summer spent outside having fun while also remaining healthy and tattoo free.

The key is to check the star rating on sun cream you purchase. It’s important to note that a 3* UVA rating allows up to 40% of UVA rays to penetrate the skin, whereas a 5* UVA suncream like Boots Soltan prevents up to 100% of UVA from permanently damaging skin.

That is until… erm maybe 18 when the tattoo temptations behind… over to you!
