Laura Whitmore is soon to be back on our screens but this time not as a presenter but as an actress!

Yes, the Bray native has snagged herself a role in the highly anticipated upcoming adaptation of Queenie.

Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Candice Carty-Williams, this eight-part series tells the story of Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman straddling two cultures and slotting neatly into neither.

Described as “razor-sharp” and “utterly honest”, Queenie at its core, is a story about a young Black woman’s value and the unrelenting trials and tribulations of life.

After recently breaking up with her white boyfriend, Queenie (played by Dionne Brown) plans to be on the rebound in a big way, while simultaneously trying to keep her head above water as one of the only young Black women working at a (fictional) London newspaper, The Daily Read.

Laura plays the role of Sadbh and if we were to guess from the first look photo it looks as though she will be playing a doctor or nurse of some sort.

“Popping up, literally, in Queenie coming to @disneyuk @channel4 @hulu and do I do all my scenes in between @dionne_brown ‘s legs? Yes. Yes I do,” Laura announced on her Instagram.

“Lovely having a squidge part in this and working with fab women @aishabywaterscasting @joelle_mae_david @candicec_w @dionne_brown in front and behind the scenes,” she added.

“Became quite handy with a speculum and ultrasonic probe, always love a new skill!”

Further names joining the cast include Jon Pointing (Big Boys), Samuel Adewunmi (Secret Invasion, You Don’t Know Me), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones), Tilly Keeper (You) and Tilly Keeper (You) to name but a few.

Although we don’t have an official release date just yet, we can expect to see it on our screens sometime this year.

We can’t wait!
