Al Porter has revealed that his new radio show is very different from his comedy work. The 24-year-old began presenting the lunchtime slot on Today FM last week.

Best known for his hilarious one-liners and gags, Al admitted that he was nervous about how he was going to transition from the stage to the airwaves.

However, he need not have worried because the move was seamless, and the Tallaght native has been covering a wide range of topics on the show, proving he’s no one trick pony.

Speaking to the Herald Al said, “I was really nervous but they said they wanted me to do a show that was me being myself. They said, think you’re with your mates – don’t think stand-up.

“We had some really interesting bits that were really serious. How do young people move out of their parents’ home or how do they cope with being at home when they’re 35?

“We had a thing with a texter talking about the loss of a sense of community and I read that out.”

The Dubliner has set the bar high for himself, aiming to be as good as legendary shock jocks such as Gerry Ryan. He also said that he’s lucky to be able to get advice from some of the best in the business.

“I’ve started off at the lowest possible level trying to learn my trade but I have aims to get to Terry Wogan or Gerry Ryan level. I’m learning from the bottom.

“I’m asking everyone for advice. Ian Dempsey has given me advice, Colm Hayes is still giving me advice. Ian said: ‘Relax, breathe. You don’t need to talk as fast as you do during stand-up. You’re not talking at people, you’re talking to people’.

We’re loving the show and think he’s doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work Al!
