Yvonne Connolly has opened up about her marriage breakdown from Boyzone star Ronan Keating, as he prepares to wed Storm Uechtritz today in Edinburgh.
The Naas native chatted candidly about her ex, who she was married to for 14 years, before they parted ways after she discovered he had been unfaithful during their marriage. She now lives in Malahide with her three children Jack, Missy and Ali.
Speaking to Colette Fitzpatrick on Newstalk today, the former model said: “The word broken marriages and broken families is thrown around. When I found myself in that situation first, we were all on great terms but it was difficult.
Discussing their 14-year marriage, she revealed the kids had grown up with a father who wasn’t always there anyway. “They were used to periods of time where they wouldn’t see their dad all the time so they adjusted quite well. I prefer the title of modern family.” Yvonne explained.
Meanwhile, Yvonne admitted she asked her children about changing back to her maiden name Connolly and they were surprised.“I could have changed it sooner. But I was determined that I’d change it when I felt ready and the kids felt ready,” she explained.
Yvonne said it was an important move to cement her status as an independent woman: “I mentioned it to my kids one day and they didn’t see it coming. They didn’t get it. They were asking, ‘You’re not going to be the same name as us?’
“Identity-wise it was nice. I embraced my independence a few years ago after my separation. Going back to Connolly was the final step.”
