The Irish seasons are about as predictable as getting your name spelt right on your coffee shop pumpkin spice latte.
Understandably a lot of people dread the transition from a warm-ish rainy summer to a slightly chillier rainy October. There is nothing worse than feeling the chill as you rush out of the house only to be sweating buckets as soon as you reach the office.
If you feel that you can never win when it comes to this tricky seasonal transition and want to avoid another AW fashion crisis, we have some fantastic styling advice waiting for you.
Stylist, Isabel Gleeson tells us all about how texture is “key to consider when layering, as it makes your outfit more interesting” and how she is loving a “layered monochromatic look”. We were also delighted to learn that the ballet flats are here to stay this autumn!
Read on to learn more about Gleeson’s inspiring tips for layering this season.

When it comes to the autumn months, what essential pieces would you advise having in your wardrobe for mastering the art of layering?
Good knitwear is key! Sézane and COS are my knitwear heroes for this season. The jumper draped over a blazer or jacket is still very much on trend for AW24. Good basics from skims, Adalona or Cos work well as a base layer. A good trench is also great for this transitional period and makes you look instantly stylish.
Are there any summer pieces that can be easily layered up for this transitional time?
Yes absolutely. Your capsule wardrobe items will work all year round. A core blazer in a colour that brings out the best in you is key. It is a staple as it can be worn with jeans, as a matching set and with dresses. A good pair of jeans is also something to invest in, a pair ideally you can dress up or dress down and wear every season. Frame and Good American are good brands to look at for this.
Are there any trends that you think will be prominent again this season? Bubble hems, cowboy boots and leopard print were huge in the summer, will they carry on into the autumn?
Yes, I believe a lot of trends from SS24 will take on a new life in AW24. For example, ballet flats were on trend this summer, but in AW24 they have become more elevated, the more traditional Mary Jane shape has taken on new forms, a square shape and studded variations are widely available. Also, this season is all about the suede jacket, high street variations have been selling out fast. It feels like the must-have piece for AW24. Green suede is also key for accessories such as bags. The colour burgundy is also everywhere and will remain key for the season!
Often in the autumn/winter, you can feel that you are covering your nice outfit with a coat a lot of the time, are there any accessories you would recommend adding to make an outfit stand out a bit more?
Yes, definitely! A good handbag that you can wear time and time again can really pull your whole look together. A nice earring can make a statement with your look and necklaces with long strands can even elongate the body!

Can you give us any winter coat advice?
If you are at events where you will be in your outerwear a lot, invest in a good winter coat. You will wear an autumn/winter coat hundreds of times, if you consider your cost per wear, it really makes them a smart item to invest in! They are not necessarily a trend item so think about a core colour that suits you well, consider which silhouette you feel good in and then you can wear this item in a few different ways! I recommend COS for jackets and coats this year; they also do scarves in fun colours to add a pop of colour to your layered look.
Finally, you mentioned Adalona and COS, are there any other brands that stand out for layering this season?
Absolutely, Sézane for gorgeous knitwear that will see you through many seasons. Arket for good basics which are easy to wear, and H&M are also nailing it this AW24 with interesting textures and shapes.
