Sienna Miller stars as an Irish emigrant in new American Crime Drama, Live By Night, where she appears alongside Ben Affleck and Brendan Gleeson.
The a-list actress has now opened up about the struggles she faced when trying to master the Cork accent for the flick, especially during her scenes with Dublin native Brendan Gleeson.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror Sienna revealed that she was particularly nervous in her scenes with Brendan, even though he made her feel totally at ease.
“He made me so nervous. There was no way I could mess up while doing a scene with Brendan. And he was so lovely, really encouraging, telling me I was doing a great job. But that did nothing for my nerves.
“Not to mention, I had to be quite rude and abrupt to him in our scene, so it just messed with my head altogether,” she said.
However, New York native Sienna did seek the help of one Irish man when trying to learn how best to do the Irish accent, Cillian Murphy in The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
Although she tried to contact Cillian directly for some dialect coaching, he didn’t answer her calls so she opted for the next best thing.
“I called Cillian, tried to get hold of him several times but he didn’t answer. So I had to resort to other measures.
“I watched Cillian in The Wind That Shakes The Barley over and over, repeatedly — I know it off by heart. It’s such a morbidly depressing film but so, so brilliant. So he still ended up assisting me,” she said.
Live By Night is in cinemas nationwide now.
