Born and raised in Crumlin Co. Dublin, Abdu Huss, known as KhakiKid, has been gaining a lot of attention recently within the media and has been creeping his way onto our radio stations over the last few months.

He’s definitely a star to watch!

Abdu grew up in a busy household with his two brothers, with whom he shared a room, his two sisters and his mother. Abdu has said that growing up in a family that was so loud meant he had to grow up much faster than most other kids.

Abdu coped with the noise in his life by turning to music. Often compared to artist Mac Miller, Abdu’s music style is a mix of alternative rap with fun, upbeat melodies.

He takes inspiration for his lyrics from his love life and upbringing, discussing themes of love, identity and his life experience growing up with little money, all while using his Dublin accent to give a unique quality to the music.

During his teen years, Abdu spent his time in his bedroom, perfecting his lyrical writing skills and learning how to produce music from home. KhakiKid has been on the music scene since 2020 when he dropped his first single ‘Last Week’ featuring Nafets and Jessy Rose.

After his original release, KhakiKid began to work alongside multiple other Irish artists such as Bricknasty, Ahmed, With Love., and Ben Beal.

Fast forward to September 2022, we see Huss performing at one of Ireland’s largest festivals, Longitude. KhakiKid’s performance included some amazing covers, some old singles, and some new tracks for his upcoming EP, which he finally released in September 2022.

The EP Elevator Music contained six tracks and allowed Abdu to grow his audience from his loyal community to a strong fan base.

In August of 2023, Huss released his second EP sand bebé containing five separate tracks. Soon after, Abdu followed his EP with a single featuring Chameleon and CARSTEN2X titled ‘Who’s That Girl’.

The song, specifically KhakiKid’s verse, started to gain a lot of attention on social media platforms such as TikTok and brought a whole new audience to Abdu.

After seeing the advantage of social media’s algorithm, Abdu continued to release two more singles and promoted them on TikTok. In December of 2024, KhakiKid released the first single off his new EP, Moanbag. The song was titled ‘Boy Racer’ and explored Abdu’s homelife growing up.

He spoke about how he grew up with little money and how he found himself comparing his home to his friends. Abdu discusses how his family’s financial situation affected his upbringing but ultimately that he was happy to be surrounded by his family.

“I never did like my home (What am I gon’ do?), The water’s always cold (What am I gon’ do?), I gotta sleep in my coat (What am I gon’ do?), Least I don’t sleep alone”

KhakiKid continued to tease more singles to his latest EP, Moanbag. ‘AppleBottomCigarettes’ and ‘Date Nite’ featuring Saint Demarcus both succeeded online and on streaming platforms; however, ‘Date Nite’ exceeded expectations.

The single went viral on TikTok with many Irish and English creators using and promoting the sound. There was even an acknowledgement from Jessie Reyez, a Canadian singer-songwriter with a massive following. ‘Date Nite’ has been streamed over 500,000 times on Spotify alone and is frequently played on Irish radio.

It is clear that KhakiKid has been growing, and continues to grow, in popularity and talent over the last five years. We can’t wait to see what’s next from this unique talent; hopefully an album on the way!
