Paris 2024 has proved to be the most successful Olympic games to date for Ireland. So far, the emerald isle has won an impressive seven medals, four gold, and three bronze by day 12 of the games.

Mona McSharry: Bronze

Mona Mcsharry found success in the women’s 100m breaststroke. The Sligo native was the first Irish person to medal in the 2024 Olympics, after winning bronze.
Unfortunately, Mona’s bid for a second Olympic medal was cut short after coming sixth in her 200m semi-final last Wednesday.
The Swimmer who attended the University of Tennessee was the first Irish woman to get into an Olympic swimming final since 1996 at the Tokyo Games three years ago.
Daniel Wiffen: Gold and Bronze

There must be something in the water at this year’s Olympics for the Irish athletes as Irish swimmer Daniel Wiffen also made history as the first Irish man to win the 800m freestyle.
On top of his gold medal, the 23-year-old Armagh swimmer also won a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle. Wiffen was succeeded in the race by the U. S’s Bobby Finke and Italy’s Gregorio Paltrinieri.
Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch: Bronze

County Down Doctor, Philip Doyle and Yale graduate, Daire Lynch made their country proud by winning Ireland’s first Olympic heavy-weight rowing medal.
Doyle and Lynch won a bronze medal in the men’s double sculls final.
Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy: Gold

The rowing wins continued as O’Donovan and McCarthy won gold in the men’s lightweight double skulls.
The rowing duo from Cork successfully defended the gold medal they won in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Paul O’Donovan also won a silver medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics whilst competing with his brother Gary O’Donavon.
The West Cork natives seem to have gathered even more attention on social media after accepting a lift from a stranger after flying back to Dublin airport.
Kellie Harrington: Gold

Dublin boxer Kellie Harrington made history in the Paris 2024 games by being the first Irish woman to win two Olympic medals at two different games.
The 34-year-old Portland Row boxer defended the gold medal she won at the 2020 Tokyo Games by defeating China’s Wenlu Yang on Tuesday night.
Harrington, who married her partner, Mandy, in 2022 announced her retirement from international boxing in a post-fight interview with RTÉ, she said: “It’s the last hurrah. I’m done. I always said I’d retired a champion. That’s it.”
Rhys McClenaghan: Gold

Another Athlete from north of the border, Rhys McClenaghan, also made the country proud with his gymnastic performance. The county Down man won gold in his impressive Pommel Horse routine on Saturday, August 3rd.
The 25-year-old world and European champion fell short of a medal at the Tokyo Olympics three years prior after falling during his routine leaving him in seventh place. He is Ireland’s most successful gymnast to date.
