Westlife have opened up about their recent comeback, revealing they feared they wouldn’t be relevant anymore.
The foursome, whose new album Spectrum shot to number 1 on the Irish charts this week, worried that their comeback would flop, despite having an avid fanbase.
Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Sligo man Kian Egan said: “It feels pretty surreal in a way, because coming back as a band we didn’t know what to expect, our expectations were low.”
“We came in with lower expectations and we weren’t really sure whether we’d still be relevant in the music industry nowadays, whether our fan base would be broad enough to get us to the number one position with an album and stuff, but it’s been an incredible year.
“It’s been just over a year since we announced our comeback as a band and the response has been phenomenal.”
Mark added, “I feel like being away for a while has built up a sense of anticipation.”
“We’re seeing new and old fans in the audience and that’s kind of the dream come true that we still can make new fans.”
Westlife have had much to celebrate as of late, with an upcoming stadium gig in Cork and a new baby in their midst.
Mark and his fiance Cailean recently announced the birth of their daughter Layla via surrogate.
Gushing over the tiny tot, he recently told Ryan Tubridy: “She’s fantastic, she’s really chilled – apart from the occasional cry and nappy change.”
