Three counties have been issued weather warnings as Storm Erik makes its way to Ireland.
A Status Orange weather warning has been issued for both Galway and Mayo from Friday morning as winds are set to increase.
There is also a Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal with similar wind speeds and damaging gusts.
A spokesperson for Met Eireann said southwest to west winds will reach’mean speeds’ of 65 to 80 km/h and some ‘severe or damaging gusts’ of 110 to 130 km/h.
It also warned that the highest winds will be in exposed coastal areas and that there will be very high seas as well with some coastal flooding.
The warnings are in place from Friday at 9 am to Saturday at 5 am.
A Yellow weather warning was issued for Ireland.
“Southwest to west winds will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 80 to 110 km/h. Along exposed Atlantic coasts these values may be exceeded for a while and with very high seas this will give the risk of coastal flooding,” Met Eireann said.
The country-wide warning is in place from Friday at 5am to Saturday at 6am.
